Influencer platform data portability: what you can actually take when you leave
The data your team builds inside an influencer platform over 12 months has real value. Your creator relationships, your outreach history, your campaign results and your custom lists represent months of work. What you can actually export when you want to leave - and in what format - varies dramatically between platforms. This is information worth knowing before you sign a contract, not after you decide to cancel.
What creator data you should be able to export
Minimum acceptable export includes creator name, handle, platform, follower count, email address (if unlocked), outreach dates and responses, campaign participation history and any notes or tags you have added. This is your operational data. A platform that cannot export this in a usable CSV is holding your data hostage. Any platform that requires a support ticket to initiate an export is adding friction to a process you have every right to complete yourself.
What platforms typically restrict on export
Platform-generated data - their engagement scores, their audience quality ratings, their database enrichment - is often not exportable because it is the platform's proprietary intelligence. This is reasonable. What is not reasonable is restricting export of data you generated: your own outreach messages, your own campaign notes and your own creator lists. Some platforms treat the combination of their data and your data as theirs on exit. Read the terms of service data section specifically.

The time window problem
Annual contract platforms often include a data export window in their cancellation terms: you have 30 or 60 days after cancellation to download your data before it is deleted. Missing this window means losing the data permanently. Month-to-month platforms with immediate cancellation typically give you a shorter window but with less at stake since you are not locked in for 12 months. Know your window before you need it.
How to protect your data regardless of platform
Export a full data backup every three months regardless of whether you are considering cancellation. Store it in a location you control - a Google Drive folder, a local backup, a separate CRM. Do not rely on the platform as your sole record of creator relationships. This protects you from platform outages, price hikes, feature removals and any decision to switch that you make in the future.
